coming home

A Poem by Edward Tapper
"

Coming home after six years away

"

Glass shards of rain scurry over the hillside

Leafy banks of Blackthorn and Alder the

Shadows of autumn's fire transform their leaves

Russet, Chestnut marl and light coral abound

Oaks that stand like sentinels cloud the sky

After six long years away, home at last

Standing on this windswept hillside alone

This old autumn evening lays the action bare

My heart shines bright and it speaks of love,

Love of my country, Wales, The Land of Song

Tylorstown's yellow orbs lighting up the streets

Returning; my days of wandering now behind me

This muted town seems at one with vague memories,

Memories of home and quiet contentment and love

Love of the male voice choir "Cor Meibion Pendyrus"

To join again this band of men, my long forgotten family

And sing Myfanwy, Dafydd y Garreg Wen, Ar Hyd y Nos

The songs sap amplified by years of honing in this hall

Reflections of old conversations on practice night

Welcoming me back home again, their long lost brother

Cor Meibion Pendyrus = Pendyrus Male Voice Choir

Myfanwy = Beloved

Dafydd y Garreg Wen = David of the White Rock

Ar Hyd y Nos = All Through the Night

Great. Your poem communicates in a very affectionate way your pleasure at arriving home, both the place and the people. I think this is a great piece of writing because it expresses such strong emotion.
Well done,
Alan
