DuskA Poem by Edward TapperDrug Addiction. Raef my nephew died of a drug overdose at the age of twenty five.Dusk wraps
the town in its dim embrace Alleys that
hide the drugs that they chase Bottles and
cans can be seen here and there Chasing
oblivion do they really care?
A time for
reflection on the life that they lead Looking for
money for the habit they feed Pockets
turned out with nothing inside Lies that
are told can be heard as they bide
A night bus
is seen heading out to the square This means
just food for this desperate pair A chance for
redemption a chance yes indeed They listen
for hours, but do they heed?
I've tried
and I've tried to turn them around The place
that I run is here on safe ground These
desperate souls we're all trying to save Two amongst
many we've tried to save from the grave hedgehog1
