A Poem by heavvur

Butterflies, oh butterflies

must you mock me?

your wingspan induces envy

the flags of yellow and red

the flash of blue and green

the sparkle of orange and purple

taunt me.

the flutter near my forming

ears entrance me.

how long until I emerge?

how long until I’ve served my time?

solitary confinement isn’t

insanity, it’s banal, it’s trite

the mundane restricts me

constricts me

darkness fills my every fold

and clothes me in a bed of

silk

eternal rest isn’t my desire,

but i can’t see the light quite yet

it takes time y’know.

to transform.

my home is stuffed with cotton

and i can’t escape.

born before the others,

but still not flying with them.

my mind soars along with the

harmonies they sing,

my melancholy melody is stifled

for how long must i wait?
