Double Standards

Double Standards

A Poem by Taji Herbert

Boys will be boys but girls should be proper

We allow our young men to be boys for too long

Rushing them out of the womb

But leaving them on the mammary glands

Allowing them to draw nourishment

From a woman for too long

Pinching their cheeks in awe of their wayward actions

Instead of spanking them in disapproval

Carrying them

Instead of allowing them to walk their own path

Tending to their every need

Making them useless members of society

While males are encouraged to get “experience”

Females are taught to be ashamed of the urge

Bred to be Grade A Beef

Show cattle that is only good slaughtered

After all, what can they do

Their abilities are all but a figment of their imagination

Leaving them to be devoured by the world of carnivores

Do not encourage double standards

Slash them in half and make the rules equal

Because right now only half the population is useful
