I

I

A Poem by Taji Herbert

As I think about today
I can help but to

Think about yesterdays
Calendar dates

That seem to flutter in the wind

Like autumn leaves
People that melt away

As if frozen precipitation

With no regard to chronological order
I mix around floating memories

In the cauldron of my mind
The last ingredients left to add

My sweat, blood and tears
All things spent unwisely in the past

I blow one final kiss to finish my incantation
And poof
I...
No longer ...
Exist...

I am a dream to many
A nightmare to most
A wish to some
And an effervescent aura to all
My presence lingers

Like the scent of a perfume
Or a song stuck in your mind

Never to be forgotten
But instead to be played and replayed
Involuntarily in your minds consciousness

I only keep a few memories

The ones I have learned hard true lessons from
The rest I have boiled down 2 one drop
And release it from my eye as a tear into the sea
Never to be captured again but always to live on
