THE MERRY-GO-ROUND

THE MERRY-GO-ROUND

A Poem by Heather Burns
"

life is a merry-go-round

"
The horses
forever
gallop
never
slowing
down
Shards
keep
falling
by the
way-side
pieces
always lie
in want
I'm tired
of riding
this pony
stop this
merry-go-
round
Let me off.

This poem is really well done. I don't think it's about life being crazy, it strikes me as a metaphor for suicide. It starts innocently enough, the horses forever gallop. But then when it adds shards falling from the sides, pieces lie pain want and so tired of waiting, you can draw parallels to someone's life turning to crap, and them falling into a depression deep enough to consider suicide. This is an emotional poem without seeming like it up front. A really great job and I look forward to seeing more.
