of the funeral homes doors

the smile I have known for years

buried

taken by angels

maybe one clad in red

wanting her brother back

and when I'm finished looking at the sky

A first kiss

the sweet scilence

when our lips first met

Love songs play with every beat

of your heart

and when it's over

and our faces part

I walk away breathless

 

The night I slept in your arms

you warm skin

pressing on mine

but the warmth goes far past my skin

it goes to my heart

when you whisper I love you

before I drift into soundless sleep

and when it's time to go home

I walk away breathless

 

These moments

heartbreaking, bittersweet, and beautiful

is what helps me

 

come back breathing
