I Believe (Ghazal)

A Chapter by Dhaye

My first attempt in writing a Ghazal

I saw you as an angel, dear and  I believe

Someone who’ll guide me through the day, yes, I believe

You listened to me when I want to cry and pout

You helped me let go of my hatred, I believe

You wanted to see me smile, that real smile

All you wished for is my real  joy, dear, I believe

When sky was dark and everything seemed so unclear

You made these eyes to see them clearly, I believe

But I was weak and time came that I have more doubts

I turned my back and  asked myself, should I believe?

A moment lost like thousand years without you, dear

Now,  who will hear me when I say that I believe?

Here in my heart, forevermore, your name will stay

And who will know what fate shall bring if I believe...

Ghazal
A short lyrical poem that arose in Urdu. It is between 5 and 15 couplets long. Each couplet contains its own poetic thought but is linked in rhyme that is established in the first couplet and continued in the second line of each pair. The lines of each couplet are equal in length. Themes are usually connected to love and romance. The closing signature often includes the poet's name or allusion to it.

Thank you, Tia. =)
The Ghazal is not a form I was familiar with. How wonderful you are trying your hand at all these forms. The love in every line of this one is powerful. Strong longing and hope for the future. Almost like a prayer. Lovely. Lydi**

Dhaye, 'I Believe' you have a wonderful poem here. I had not heard of a Ghazal, it is fascinating learning these new forms and to see you demonstrate them. A very nice poem.
