Cotton Candy (Free Verse)

Cotton Candy (Free Verse)

A Chapter by Dhaye
"

Give it back to me...

"

When I was still alone
I was just a simple girl
Who would wish for an ice cream on a sunny day
Or a cup of hot chocolate when it's raining
Or my favorite food, sweet cotton candy
Because I only wanted to live like someone
Who doesn't care for anything at all
Like a child

But you came

And in your presence I have learned
So many things
So many things that I couldn't believe
I have done myself
Just for you

Just for you...

I forgot to eat ice cream
And drink  hot chocolate
Or to taste even my favorite cotton candy
Because you made me believe
Those are for a child
And I am not a child anymore

You changed me...

A lot

So much that I don't even know myself
What is right or wrong
About me
Because you always say
"it's okay"
"you're right"

Tell me

When will I become alright?
Now that you are trying
To teach me
How to forget you?

Then give me back my cotton candy
And I promise
I can...

A amazing poem. It is sad when we realized we gave up too much. I like the story and the ending in the poem. Real love is not changing the person we need. It is making them feel needed and loved. No weakness in the outstanding poetry.

Cotton candy may not be able to take the place of the learning..if it does you are lucky.
This is a nice look at maturing and exploration.
Love and loss...you might need a ton of cotton candy and ice cream.
Enjoyed it.

dear Dhaye... we are influenced by
someone we love... sometimes we learn
how to treat others... and sometimes we learn
how not to treat others. Either way..
we can still have our ice cream and chocolate...
and always cotton candy dreams. truly... Pat

I like this Dhaye! you have stirred my emotions. It's like wave. You can paint a very vivid picture of what is in your heart, and still leave a lot to the readers' imaginations, nevertheless giving a clear hint of what had been the consequent ending of the story. I can feel every word and relate to it. Thank you!

Ice cream, hot chocolate, and cotton candy.....such delicious comfort foods. No one has the right to take away your childhood fantasies, dreams, or loves. Anyone who would take those away from you and try to change you is not worth it....of course now it is too late to tell you that. There is a wonderful innocence about this write...and lots of honest emotion. I liked it. lydi**

Thank you so much, Lydi. You're also kind to me. =)
First, your font size hurts my eyes (i misplaced my eyeglasses. LOL).

Sometimes we let go of the things that make us happy just to please someone else. In the long run, it's not worth the effort =). i'm glad that in the end, the voice realized that cotton candy is better than him/her. LOL.

All to easy to regress into one's shell after the heartache but keep the head held high and be strong, love will bloom again, least of all when you expect it !

A interesting poetic piece on the human psyche !
