CHAPTER X. THE CONTRACTA Chapter by DhayeI just smiled again. My God! Do I know something else aside from smiling?Holding my portfolio, I am again in a hurry. I have to meet Mr. Morales in a restaurant he told me this morning. We have our agreement that we have to talk to this in private and not in the office because it’s a personal project and not of the company. So we will have our dinner talk and contract signing in private also. Five minutes before the time, I reached the place. It is a native restaurant in the middle of a vast garden. The place is cozy and I just have my impression that Mr. Morales is a romantic person. I am standing at the door when a hand holds mine and lead me towards the table at the left corner. It’s him. How romantic he is if this is really a lovers’ date! He is a gentleman, unlike my impression this morning at the office. When we reached our table, he pulled a chair for me and let me sit first before he does. A waiter came to serve us. He gave us the menu list and waited for our order. “What do you want to eat?” he asked me. “A-Anything. It’s up to you. Anyway you are the one who will pay for this.” I just said that because I don’t know what to say. This is my first dinner date with a male client. He smiled at me and then talked to the waiter about the order. The food came after 20 minutes. During our dinner, nothing was said but few smiles to each other. After eating , the waiter served us red wine. “Good for the digestion,” he said. I just smiled again. My God! Do I know something else aside from smiling? “So can we talk now about the contract?” he started. “O-Okay, Sir” At last I’ve found my words! “Please don’t call me Sir. Miguel is okay, anyway this is a private project” “O-Okay…M-Miguel.” He gave me a picture. “He’s cute! Who is he?” “He’s Nicko, my son.” I don’t know why I feel something in my heart. He has a son. He’s a married man. Oh no! “I want you to teach him painting. He’s a lonely boy and I don’t want to see him miserable every day.” I just looked at him asking for more stories. “He became like that since his mother left us.” “Your wife? Why did she leave you?” I felt pity for Nicko. “Because I am not the man she wanted to be with for the rest of her life. I know nothing about her aside from that she’s in New Jersey now. Okay, this is our contract. You will work for Nicko as her painting tutor. I don’t know if for how many months, but as long as he enjoys it, you will work for me…same price. I’ll give you fifty thousand a month.” I am really surprised. “What?! Yes! Yes, I will work for you. Thank you, Miguel. I really need a job,” unexpectedly I kissed and hugged him in my excitement. I signed the contract without reading it. Anyway he explained it completely. I will work for him as long as his son wants painting. That’s all! This is what Marian said monthly salary. © 2013 DhayeFeatured Review
