Darkness as a MirrorA Poem by alittledistractionThe dark is nothing but a mirror.
I've learned to embrace the darkness
For it is the one thing I may rely on. Its suffocating presence Provides a comforting resonance. Those who fear the dark Are not afraid of the unknown They are, instead, afraid of what they do know. About themselves, What truths they may uncover that they wish to never see. The darkness is not an abyss, nor something to fear. It is a mirror, that's unforgiving if you allow it near. It reflects the horrid truths one knows about themselves Shows the thoughts in the back of their heads, put away and stacked on dusty, old shelves. The dark will only show that the monsters they may despise Are those created by their own minds. So as others find comfort in the light, I find comfort in the dark, For I don't fear what I may see. I know my ugly truths, they no longer scare me. So as I write this, embraced in the dark I hope those who read it can begin and embark On their journey of discovery of themselves, good and bad. So you too can understand darkness is nothing but a vessel, so no need to get mad When you see something terrible, anything you don't like. It is not the dark that brought that upon you, it was your own mind.
