SoothingA Poem by hazy
I said “I love you”
Like the careless twitch of a finger And it danced with my breath on the air for a few moments Until I had realized what I had done “It’s like breathing,” is what the movies say “It’s easy, love is” And somehow, it turns out, they were right Fiction is a blanket that I crawl under Mountains of metaphors melting into a fuzzy abyss and becoming the sugar that sweetens my frazzled thoughts and soothes my dizzy brain So I suppose I never understood that when swoony authors wrote of fireworks and artists painted lovers into a thousand roses They meant it Because when I said “I love you,” it took me seconds to realize what I’d done But it took you less to smile at me and reply like it was the most natural thing in the world that you would be loving me and we would be side-by-side © 2023 hazyReviews
