Crush

Crush

A Poem by hazy

I still harbor
A silly schoolyard crush
Despite having held you what feels like a thousand times
And beheld you a thousand more

The way you look at me
Catches the breath in my throat
And jumbles my thoughts until your words spill out of the side of my head
and I remember I’m supposed to be listening
My heart still quickens
At a glance shot my way
Reminding me that I was staring
While my constant chorus of butterflies give a giddy flutter

My heart betrays me, I’m sure
I don’t know how to be subtle
I write you into a hundred poems
and beg you to understand how you matter to me
To see the way you make my knees weak and my thoughts scatter
But the idea of you knowing, fully knowing, makes my silly schoolyard crush
Hide behind its hands
And try to calm a racing heartbeat
As the blushing subsides

Yes, those crushes. Make us quiet and wishing, we could speak. I adored the poetry. All of us had known this emotion. Thank you hazy for sharing the amazing poetry.

I think we all have had our schoolyard crushes. Sometimes when we were young and enamored by the power of benevolent authority, and sometimes when older and the age between us was not so much. At any rate they both led to blushes upon discovery.

That’s for sure! Thank you for the review!
This is, quite possibly the most romantic words I've read in some time. Isn't this what we all strive for? To be able to look at the one we love, after years or decades together, and still say, "Be Still My Heart." It is so very rare and will never be for me.

Thank you!
I see you call yourself a lovesick teenager and that is for sure the age when the boy girl thing usually begins
It is good to see you also take an interest in poetry because at that age all I could think about was fast cars and female companions
Keep up your writing, it will help keep your brain alive
