CrushA Poem by hazy
I still harbor
A silly schoolyard crush Despite having held you what feels like a thousand times And beheld you a thousand more The way you look at me Catches the breath in my throat And jumbles my thoughts until your words spill out of the side of my head and I remember I’m supposed to be listening My heart still quickens At a glance shot my way Reminding me that I was staring While my constant chorus of butterflies give a giddy flutter My heart betrays me, I’m sure I don’t know how to be subtle I write you into a hundred poems and beg you to understand how you matter to me To see the way you make my knees weak and my thoughts scatter But the idea of you knowing, fully knowing, makes my silly schoolyard crush Hide behind its hands And try to calm a racing heartbeat As the blushing subsides © 2023 hazyReviews
