Delude MeA Poem by hazyAn angsty little love poem about dreaming
“When.”
The insufferable confidence in just one tiny little word Shakes me I know that the freezing fingers of fate giggle as she brushes my lips And maybe I think too much, too often, my mind spinning in endless irrational circles But don’t we all just want a “when”? You tell me with such calm, “when we live together,” as if it’s simply a statement of fact “When we get older” “When I see you again.” You say it with ease, as if the winds will blow and the sun will rise and your hand will remain in mine And so, somehow, “if” became “when” But today you asked me, “when we break up, what will I be to you?” Nothing really changed, of course not, We’re young and stupid and the winds will blow and the sun will rise and it’s foolish to believe our hands won’t drift apart someday But “when” is too assured, too loud, too powerful Give me a when that means I get to wake up in your arms And let myself be in delusion for just a little while longer © 2023 hazyAuthor's Note
