A Poem by hayzed
"

about a horror in my country

"

The monster still lives
Merrying in sunken smiles
Decorous to his intuition
His heart drums melodies

Oh goodness, he dives
Not into the waves of ocean
Nor the gentleness of the sea
Nor the race of rivers
But into the flood of humans
Flowing like the pendulum
In pursuit of meal tickets

Oh dear chariot of mercy
People...pulverized on the floor
Unfortunate scalding death
Body parts dispersed everywhere
Toddlers, teenagers, parents
Like in the war movies
Terrific explosions
Deafening noises
Earth quakes at the flash

The firmament goes crimson
We cringe in terror
Blood in the eyes
Properties vandalized
Corpses everywhere
Mothers cry in search
A cry for help
A tragedy begs on us

Rains of tears
Flood of blood
Bodies in pieces
Lost measure of peace
Souls speed to heaven

I puff out my teeth
Put out my smoke
While I chew with my eyes
Sweet sad stories
Coming from my tv
Chibok girls are gone
Foreign hands are stretched
Nothing grows difference
Some back, some dead

Kano saw it
Katsina kissed it
Maiduguri hugged it
Jos cuddled it
Kaduna welcomed it
Abuja entertained it
Lasgidi denied it

Apologies

sympathies
Condolence
Let them shine
As the sun does
Unto their heart
The bereaved
May God heal
Your bleeding souls
To the dead...
Have an eternal rest
................In peace

You convey the atrocities so well here. I was left with a grieving heart wondering how on earth does a country start to heal after such savagery. Your words hit home and remind me that there are conflicts everywhere, where we should learn to inhabit this planet peacefully and respect our neighbours. A powerful write hayzed. You have a voice and you are using it to good effect.

An unpleasant occurrence, whatever it was at the time and its quite relevant considering current world events. Some things just never change, i guess. I enjoyed the poem.

I’m so grateful
this is what poetry should do...this speaks out so eloquently on the disarray in your country...you are a voice for those who cannot or choose not to speak.
the Beats did a lot of that in the fifties and sixties...I was part of that generation and appreciated their voices so much...O'Hara, Leroi Jones, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti and so many others.
