2059A Story by braylin smithWe didnt believe them when they told us about the virus. We called them crazy; insane...we believe them now. When the virus hit in 2012, more then half of the worlds human population died. And from the surviors that were left only 30 percent were human. The rest were...altered. In some it happened over time; their skin paled and decomposed slightly. In others their skin burned from the radiation of the sun. Their social skills seemed to disappear, and in its place took on an almost beast like behavior. They became animals, attacking and consuming anything that moved and unfortunately that meant the remaining humans were on the menu. Some might call them "zombies", the undead. But we know better. They still had a heartbeat, still had to breath. They just were diffrent. But sometimes even we wonder how such...creatures...can still be considered anything but beasts.
year: 2059 New York City Running. Lungs burning; heart accelerated. She risks a look behind her; knows what she will find. One glance proves right. Things chasing her into the night. Animal like and bloodied, comeing after her on the dark destroyed streets. People in heavy armored cars hurry past her, looking with pity filled eyes. They know that if they help they will surly die, or become contaminated with the virus, then becoming what was chasing the girl now. And so they fled from the scene, probably off to find shelter in the abandon and destroyed city. Some of them will be dead by morning, or maby not. you never know now. The girl falls, trips on cracked pavement. She winces at the sound of a wet snap, knows that she will not get up. No weapons to even try to defend herself, she knows she will die. She closes her eyes as the infected monsters creep forward. She waits for them to eat her; She knows they will. And yet she hears them turn and run in the opposite direction. Opens her eyes and sees why they have left her. Across the street, a group of people hurries along, unaware(for the moment) that they are being stalked. The young girls sighs. They have found bigger prey, leaving her to live; to crawl to some sort of safety, to survive another day. She gets up, almost yells in pain, but limps away before more come. As she slips away she hears the distinct sound...of screams in the dark. © 2013 braylin smith |
