This is Where She Put Her DreamsA Poem by Hayley
This is where she put her dreams.
This woman knows an empty room a dusty dresser a closed door. this is where she put her dreams A baby crying a little kid biking and a teenager blaring her music too loud, too loud. this is where she put her dreams The door is closed the cobwebs are growing bigger, bigger until they coat her memories. this is where she put her dreams She remembered the worst of days like they were the best and the best of days make her cry. her daughter laughing at her older brother her daughter crying in her arms. this is where she put her dreams This woman knows an empty room and folded clothes a dirty sock still sits under her bed and the shoes are piled hastily in the little closet. This is where she put her dreams. This woman knows grief counseling food sitting on on her doorstep empty apologies from her friends and whispered rumors behind her back About where she put her dreams. This woman knows pain and wondering what did I ever do wrong? She saw a girl smiling a girl dying but she couldn't have known. This woman doesn't know why. What ever happened to her daughter's dreams'? © 2011 Hayley |
