Tentative Opposites

Tentative Opposites

A Poem by Rachael Hayes

You make me want to write raunchy love poems
And beautifully constructed lyrics
Because you have experienced my morning breath
My whiney voice
My cracky voice
My loud voice
My silent voice
Seen my hair covered in grease
And still wouldn't let me leave the bed
Kissed me on my forehead after
Laying in each others arms breathless
Reminding me for the hundredth time I'm beautiful
Wanting nothing more than to feel it
You are the first man to call me sexy
And make me believe
You make me want to start
Putting names in my poems
I learned long ago
Its easier to connect
When you leave the name badge blank
Its more respectful
But your name is so beautiful
I want to scream it from the mountain tops
Say my evening prayer
In the direction of your heart
While my devotion to everything else in my life
Follows the intensity of the moon
Waxing and waning month to month
There is no one I want more than you
You were my first true love poem
I want to compare your rib cage to the
West Virginian mountain range
Your tongue to the Hawaiian tide
Your eyes to the desert sky
Your entire being reminds me
Of all the beautiful places I've been
You are where I want to be
