An Open Letter to the Other Girls He'll Love

An Open Letter to the Other Girls He'll Love

A Poem by Rachael Hayes
"

Its strange to thing the things you shared with and ex will be shared with others so that they find those things to be unique to their relationship...

"
Dear future partners,
He will call you love,
Because for him you will represent that imagined sensation:
Drowning under water,
Sinking deeper ,
Somehow finding the O in H2O.
Do not think this makes you special.
He has used this flattery before.
He will villainize his past romantic partners,
Do not believe this makes you better than the arms that once held him,
Soon he will say the same things about you.
He will take you on adventures,
This is nothing new.
He is reusing old memories,
Replacing her name with yours as best he can,
But her smell will never leave his skin.
He will compliment the parts of you,
That remind him of her.
It does not mean that yours are more beautiful than her's,
Just that yours show him what he left behind.
He will begin to plan a life with you.
Move to Seattle with him.
He will support your passions,
While he works his,
Hard word floors in a second story walk up:
Modern, chic but eclectic.
These ideas were not of his own concoction,
He's planned many times before you,
And will plan many times after,
Your fights have finally driven you apart.
He will never date the same type twice,
But they all have a theme.
His decision to save you is nothing new,
He has tried to save them all.
Sex with you is new,
And exciting.
If he compares you to the others do not,
Use his words to fill your chest with.
Remember the time you spent apart,
And the comparisons he let enter another lover's ear.
The private space you share with him when you make love,
Means nothing when you are no longer the one and only.
He will say the same about you one day,
So do not let this knowledge become weapons.
Karma has never been kind,
To those who hold themselves over those,
They've come to know from the frustrations of an ex lover.
You are not the first,
Nor will you be the last.
He will love again,
Keep watch over the changes in his vocabulary.
He will slowly begin using your given name,
When he has lost interest.
He will lose interest.
Do not think you're ability to catch his eye,
Makes you more attractive than the ones he left behind.
Boredom has a strange and character morphing power.
Remember these things.
When he drops your hand,
Shortens his kisses,
His hugs,
Forgets to call.
After all he was easy to take from his past long term lover,
He is just as easy to take away from you.

Sounds like this guy is a player and good at it. It is very sad for the women he is playing. I don't seem to notice to many metaphors. Boredom has a strange and character morphing power is an interesting way to describe boredom. Over all a good poem!
