Vegetable Farmer

By Adam Hock

There is a vegetable farmer

Spending every second of the day thinking of ways to produce more vegetables

To feed to others

And make them grow big and strong

He sets up at a farmer’s market

He looks around and see that

Nobody wants his vegetables

That he’s worked so hard to grow

Kids reject his vegetables

For the way they look and the people who like them

All the farmer’s work feels useless

As he ponders his motives for vegetable farming

Nobody wants my vegetables

For the way they look and the people who like them

If my vegetables are not selling

Why should I bother coming back tomorrow?

Then the farmer remembers the vegetable eaters

By the way they look and the people who like them

The leaders, the innovators, and those alike

All got to where they are because they had vegetables

The farmer smiles at his epiphany

And loves his vegetables

Because he knows he is always in business

And here’s the reason why

Those who don’t buy his vegetables

Will never become big and strong;

And Therefore,

They have no power to overthrow him
