Ode to ReadingA Poem by SolitudeThis is my other favorite ode from 7th grade English. It's me, Only me, In my own wondrous world No longer a part of this one. I am forgiven of anything, Everything, Living inside a world Created by another. A castle in a kingdom. A kingdom in a book. Hidden away, where No one Sees the book that holds my Heart. Under my desk, so I may read And not get caught. Home, At night, Time to sleep, But not for me. Under covers, flashlight in hand I go to the Enticing Life I wish to Dream. A squire of King Arthur, A knight fighting monsters, A reader enveloped in her book. When I do sleep, my dreams are Ridden With the ivory pages, The mahogany cover. I become a lover looking for another, A pirate searching for treasure, A reader longing to read. As I awaken, I Pick up my book, And read a few pages. Suddenly, I stop. I have finished my book, The adventure has ended. I am lost.
