Reflections on Gilgamesh

Reflections on Gilgamesh

A Poem by Solitude
"

This was inspired by a group discussion at a book camp I go to, where everyone was talking about how much they hated him. This is my poem about him.

"
Gilgamesh, oh Gilgamesh
You fill me with fright
For I can't help but notice
Your strength and your might

And though you're superior
To them and to me
You're still only human
As you plainly see

You live life to the fullest
Though you're not so nice
You do what you like
Though it's always a vice

Your intentions are good
Though your execution bad
For using other's women
Makes us all mad

The gods tried to help us
By giving you a match
Who was to destroy you
But not to you attach

Enkidu was different
For he wouldn't intrude
On Enlil's own forest
As this would cause a feud

But you, oh Gilgamesh
Had the instincts of man
And had to conquer
What was under a ban

Gilgamesh, oh Gilgamesh
You fill me with fright
I see your heart's good
Though your tactics aren't right

About
I love to write about everything; my sword, my life, my friends, my problems, pretty much anything that first comes to mind. I'd love to say that I was born with a pen and a book in my hand, though t.. more..
