Lamenting Soldier

Lamenting Soldier

A Poem by Chris

Take a deep breath,
I accepted my death.
I went in with the best,
I died with the rest.
No one saw them coming.
We were busy running,
straight into the fray.
Massacred by our own prey.
The plan seemed clear,
we were without fear.
Charge through the right,
we'll be out of their sight,
and flank the rangers.
We were aware of the dangers.
But they ambushed us instead,
within seconds we were dead.
Now I stand here above the bodies,
watching the prey enjoy their bounties.
If I could alter this event,
our deaths I would prevent.

I would never suspect you did this in 5 minutes - it's great! Captures what I would think goes through a soldier's mind.

A very strong poem. War is in seconds. Battles can seem forever when your life is in danger. I like the feel and the emotion of this poem. I like the ending. If we could not kill or kill another. We could live or died with a good conscious. A very good ending to a excellent poem.

Very strong, dangerous piece. Its also quite picturesque about the fight/battle. A very fiery poem indeed. Great job! ;)
