Lamenting Soldier

Lamenting Soldier

A Poem by Chris

Take a deep breath,
I accepted my death.
I went in with the best,
I died with the rest.
No one saw them coming.
We were busy running,
straight into the fray.
Massacred by our own prey.
The plan seemed clear,
we were without fear.
Charge through the right,
we'll be out of their sight,
and flank the rangers.
We were aware of the dangers.
But they ambushed us instead,
within seconds we were dead.
Now I stand here above the bodies,
watching the prey enjoy their bounties.
If I could alter this event,
our deaths I would prevent.

This partially reminds me of a zombie apocalypse, and how I see a person standing on a sidewalk, watching all the zombies enjoy all the living people around them, tearing them apart. But anyways, soldiers deserve a lot of credit for choosing to put their lives on the line for us. Even for many they don't know, they are able to man up and take control of the situation. Good story told by the way. Just to add to this review. :)

I knew when I read it, it was fast and off the cuff. Still I love battle scenes, especially sword fights. This made me think of them.
