Without Reverse

Without Reverse

A Poem by Travis Lawrence

Distance in days
like daylight
between suns.
Night is nowhere
in between.

Wrinkled cheeks
and chins, stubble
scratched palms
shared and festered
in ultraviolet's decay.

Immune to this
moment's immunity,
unable to arrest
this efficient movement
released forward.

Straight as linear
without reverse,
we creak and slip
into dissolvable
pasts like lava.
