Awoken Oaxaca

Awoken Oaxaca

A Poem by Travis Lawrence
"

Oaxaca, Mexico

"

High barbed wire covers dynamite cliffs

with sand scripts and anti climbs

of Oaxaca’s spiraled motion sickness

on six to seven hour buses.

Spanish speaks in irrelevance to simple speech

but energetic smiles on their dark eyed faces

convinces intense happiness and expends exponential

smooth connects of cosmic connections.

Energy feels my stomach and spleen

with caressed hands squeezed against

my insides and skin my bloody muscles.

Energy is me and the world around me

is my energy that was lost in dreams

and slept behind my eye lids that never opened

until I saw myself gorged

on sinking ribs of starvation, no good to fill

my perceptions of skin.

But wakened life now loves my intimacy

and I love the courteous touch of souls curious sense.
