Beaconsdale Drive

Beaconsdale Drive

A Poem by Travis Lawrence
"

Parked by my homestead, staring straight ahead, listening to Radiohead

"

No apologies on this short road

I walked as naïvely as a helpless child

with a blush of youthful harmony,

blessed to be outside and warm.

Tonight three street lights slowly shine

against the slight leftward swerve, where stoned Radiohead,

an hour past sleepy midnight on the drive I called home,

softly pours slow music from my parked car's speakers.

I like it, very cozy and quaint. Things:

~ "an hour past sleepy midnight on the drive I called home" - great line.
~ Why do you capitalize "Apologies"?
~ Second and fourth lines in the second stanza seem awkward. Not terribly so, but slightly.
~ Suggestion: maybe write out Drive instead of Dr. in the title? Not a huge thing, but the first thing I thought of was Doctor.

Nitpicking aside, it brings back pretty much every memory I've ever had of being in a car late at night. That cozy, sleepy feeling of being safe out in the open. Music, streetlights... great effect.
