Open RoadA Poem by Travis LawrenceI imagined this 15 minutes ago“Could we turn on some music?” I asked her. I was bored by the stale echo of our wheels, rolling across the desert highway, the constant wind of no other cars, and the endless stretch of road and sandy landscape, blurry where it bended along the folds of Earth. “Come on, we’ve been on the road for 44 hours,” I said. She hadn’t stopped driving, the entire time, without rest, but she said she could only drive safely without any distractions, like music. “Where are we going?” I asked her. She said she wasn’t sure. Certainly, it would be boring without music. “Let me out, then” I said. “I’ll hitchhike, instead.” © 2008 Travis LawrenceReviews
