Scorching Star

Scorching Star

A Poem by Travis Lawrence
"

I looked up and saw her

"

Empty space encloses the scorching star

who nests in a silent spiral of her sisters.

She stretches to catch my yawning eyes,

and puncture the city’s midnight light.

An isolated entity too strong for the sky,

she plays the notes of her yellow anthem

with waves of fire, sweltering sun spots

that seethe and reach like white sirens.

She chars the adjacent night,

relieved back to a natural black.

I send her my tilted head’s wonder,

and awe in gaping revelation.

Her bright and mystified brilliance,

the astounding luminance of her origins,

the potency of her shine’s lucid grasp.

I stand still, to stare as others pass.

I went way back and found this beauty
I like how you make 'her' waiting in the sky for the right moment
to get 'your' attention and then the cosmic beauty of it and the irony
that 'others pass' not even realizing this thing of beauty
Well done, Travis
