poem: New Snow

poem: New Snow

A Chapter by Marie Anzalone
"

something quick penned for a lonely friend this morning as I watched the new snow falling

"

for LH

I awoke this morning thinking of you

and wondered how you are today

in this new lonely year

I hear, and know, that things get monotonous

and even boring

in the sameness of the climate where it doesn't snow.

It does here.

today we have about three inches of new snow-

powder, actually-

perfect for sledding

and walking through the woods,

silent as a shroud attended by only

one's own thoughts and the chickadees.

and I wish you were here to see this

and go for a stroll with me

I'd make us some hot chocolate, double strength

with vanilla and peppermint

before we head out.

because the isolation in new snow is so beautiful

and not lonely at all

for the magic of its slumber reminds you

that underneath the desert of white

if you brush aside the dusting, and look deeper

you'll see next season's buds

simply waiting their turn for reawakening.

The snow just tells us we need to rest

a little ways before we begin again.

Reading this poem, brought childhood memories, growing up in central Ontario. Rushing home from school, to get my toboggan, as a fresh layer of snow covers the ground. Coming home, with rosy red cheeks and damp clothes, to the awaiting cup of hot Chocolate and marshmallows. Thank you, for reminding of these fun times, with your poem.

What a beautifully written piece for such a wonderful person. Having stood in new snow myself, I can completely relate to the glory and wonder of it. I hope this wonderful person knows that she is not alone. That, as you say, she is just resting before beginning again.

A lovely piece, Marie.

And I was wishing for the snow to go away already!
This allows me to rethink that. Reminds me to
appreciate these kind of things in life; to look for the
'diamond in the rough' of sorts.

For Moi?
Never have I had anyone write me anything other than the obligatory Birthday card, etc.
Marie,
words truly escape me at this point. I can say it is beautiful , wonderful and means more to me than you can possibly know...
