Today is a Day for Living

Today is a Day for Living

A Chapter by Marie Anzalone
"

for KC on her birthday

"

Today is a Day for Living
for Kristina, 10/8/09

I awaken with the light of morning gold at my window;
   sweet dreams interrupted when I turn to face,
         my own heart, breaking-
Yet with smile upon my fabulous lips, I rise, thanks for the giving
            draw a deep breath and pray for strength, for today-
Today is a day for Living.

There will be trials awaiting, surely…
      toil and strife, earthly demands and concerns always on my splendid spirit
            my connected heart, it is aching-
Around me, in various ways, my world crumbles, both Loves and Lives are dying
        I honor my losses and let them have their say, for today-
Today is a day for Crying.

I am certain I will encounter my own strong voice this given trembling day;
    too long silent, needy, undeserving have I waited'
            my tender heart, forsaken-
I walk today with determined stride, courage mustered, sabres shined and rattling
              head held high, my words thundering, for today-
Today is a day for Battling.

I will laugh today, crystal chimes and rolling bass, resonating from my belly to the hills;
     my fertility goddess hips will partake in spiritual, genderless mirth;
            my joyous heart, rebirthed
Delighting in awareness of sublimely ridiculous twisted thoughts for later voicing,
     and standing in awe of that which I am nurtured by, for today-
Today is a day for Rejoicing.

I will take stock of my microcosm today, and settle my numerous scores;
   future plans will blossom in my awakened mind,
          my heart full to bursting
I will let go what serves me not, and reconcile with those that need forgiving
    I will make my life adventure, do what I too long have feared, for today-
Today is a day for Living.

Beautiful gift :-) .... your words are always so deep , make me feel i am reading something that is more than just a simple poem , something that came from inside, deep feelings ... you write about a friend, but my feeling you write about you too, you try to tell her, what that day will be for her but on the other hand, you hope her experience will be better than yours, with small hints , only you can understand. Last stanza was the most beautiful because I felt hope ... much hope /// Yossi

Truly inspiring, and life affirming. Sometimes we think it's not easy to embrace the new day, but here you give many reasons why we should. Why we have to. "Today is a day for battling." I love that you challenge us here,––– motivate. A poem really, that got me a fired up... Thank you for sharing this positive/ piece

A beautifully written invitation: challenging and inspiring! The invitation to "encounter one's voice"," rejoice in our bodies", and "let go of what serves us not". Today is!.

"I will take stock of my microcosm today" nice line. Great feeling of living life to the fullest, full of hope and everything that makes a life what it is. Nice job.

ah this is such a moving, touching work. i'd love to be clinical and say how the structure or word choice struck me. but that would like fibbing, because honestly, i noticed none of these, as each time i read it i was stricken by the beauty and hope and fierce life you created in this piece.

excellent, excellent.

I think that this is a very nice tribute to that friend. The essence of the piece speaks to me. I can see the battle. That is one thing that never fails about your work-the imagery is always there. I think that it gets stronger as the piece goes on. I think that the adjectives you use overall get stronger as the piece progresses as well.

I questioned the word choice with splendid and fabulous, but I get that is for the uplifting effect, the bolstering of the inner self.

This is one of my favorites at the moment, glad I got a second to read it.
