Right Angles

Right Angles

A Poem by Marie Anzalone

Tell me where your love

comes from

and I will tell you why stars

were situated exactly 90 degrees

in all directions, from the source

of human frailty.

Teach me to dance

with you

to the new 14 hertz new frequency

of the earth; and I will tell

you everything I know of

the migratory patterns of rocks.

Show me the force needed

to move a man’s heart

towards buoyancy even

after drowning; I will paint

you the story of the uncertainty

of peace between nations.

Take me to the place

where your truest love

first kissed you, and I will

teach you why the first gods

were women carved of

stone, flowing in rivers,

and carrying the stars

in the hands they used

to massage the tired shoulders

of primordial lovers, hunters,

and carvers of stone.

I will love you 90 degrees

in all directions.
