Sarcasmic Encounters

Sarcasmic Encounters

A Poem by Marie Anzalone
"

meditation for homework assignment on the theme of sarcasm for Casa los Altos

"

You said, love;

I said, ok, I’ll try you on.

I took my clothes off

and climbed into your trust

like a dancer who forgot

her future; a psychic

who cannot read

a program.

it was beneath notice

at first- a critique

of my hair, hands, desires;

later, an oppression

of expression. A hypocrisy

of thematic proportions.

you finally admitted,

it was never love; but I was

already pinned by your

weight when

you promised at least

a great time. When you started

to ridicule my intimacy,

I at least realized

the supreme irony.

You bought me a bridge

to heaven with

fool’s gold-

all that you gave to me

in all those nights I dedicated

to you

was a big, wet, agitated,

and shouted

sarcasm.

I find it strange that a man can take advantage of a woman like this, and meanwhile, there are other men who would love to have a special someone they can call and be with. Sex is great but if it's not genuine, someone's using someone.
