Other conversations

A Poem by Marie Anzalone

You did it again, didn’t you?

You visited her, took

what you wanted- left with

your world, and all of its belongings

rearranged in perfect order-

using her help; her, shall we say,

particular knowledge

of your exterior and interior design.

You turned the stove on

}set the pot on the burner,

warmed it up a little. And left

before the water even came

to a boil.

She wants you to leave her

also unable to form

a coherent sentence

or walk a straight line

to the bathroom door.

You need to be an artist

in this medium, too. Imagine

for example, that you

are going to paint her as she

presents herself in front

of you. Now  put your mouth

in all of the places

over and through which

your mind and eyes

are running. Start by using

your gift of words- when

you have exhausted their

usefulness, you are ready

to commence conversing

in tongues.
