poem: bridging worlds on December 21, 2012

A Chapter by Marie Anzalone

This is why I know

This is why I know;

the new era turns over

today and

outside the sky is gray

with clouds

and I have a million things

to do and I have been

meditating and letting

go

painfully of what

does not enlighten

or sustain or serve

and how I know is

even though the darkness

last week

and the moment of

silence today

for bloodshed back home

and my state's collective grief

tainted everythought

for days

I know because every

one of those days

and today

I awoke wanting

to write poetry

praising the world for

the sheer joy

of you being in it.

and this is how we know:

because you will read

these words

and know

 they are my shield

against the despair

of darkness

my gift for you today

and every other.

This is why we know

the bells ring today

for peace

for acknowledging grief

for human suffering

renewed hope

and union

they ring for all the

you and me's

whose spirits will touch

today.

I saw myself in this, too. Particularly, in your second stanza. And this affirming well written piece of yours caused me to think....

I saw yesterday for the first time some of the faces of those beautiful children who were taken away from this world far too soon. And I was moved, as the world was too. And I began to think of Hurricane Sandy and that outpouring of love, and support. I thought of the election and how the ice cold shape shifting venture capitalist was defeated; I thought of those women and minority/ hating grey faced politicians who are losing their grip....

There is a shift Raquelita, a rousing of the slumbering body. And I am now convinced that the people in this country are beginning to wake and to realize how ugly, our culture has become... I'm thinking: this is how a new age is born, right?

I saw and felt myself in the second stanza. You hold a mirror before our eyes and show us the world. But it is more than that. The mirror links us all together with its depth and foresight. We, the living reflections and incarnations of the great spirit. Those bells rouse the element within us that has so long been denied. The bliss and the joy, the compassion and feeling that makes us realize that we are all interconnected.

This tragedy has struck a nerve, and I think for many, that psychological sense has been activated. The body and the soul are beginning to commune with one another. It is telling us that we are closer together than we ever knew, and that our dedication can truly transcend the world. So begins the era of the great reformation and the arrival of the great torch.

Our spirits will indeed touch today, for we are never alone. We are part and particle of all things and all things are part and particle of us. Through this lesson we learn the depth of one another in this suffering. It is being illustrated as we speak.

You have captured a piece of the divine message. May peace be with you and with us all.
