Why

Why

A Poem by Heather Rodwell
"

The questions we ask ourselves

"

I changed my shoes coz they were too tight
I fixed my hair coz it was a mess
I put on some make up and a necklace
I walked out the door
Into the blizzard beyond.
There I found a small yellow rose
And in it, a bug
An aphid, I s’pose
I looked at him as he went on his way.
I found this quite fascinating
and stared at him a while.

The blizzard messed my hair
So I went back inside
Crawled into my bed
And didn’t get out
Until the next day
Where I wore a red shirt
With some pink frilly shoes.
Walked outside
Into the blizzard
Yet again.
Why do I keep
Going outside
When I know there’s a blizzard
Beyond my wooden door?
Why do I wake up
Just to go back to sleep?
Why is that aphid
Still staring a me?

Why not?! You felt like it and the storm without that drives you back in is still fascinating and challenging... and the aphid is a pest... but that's life!
