controversial left-wing activist Dashanan, a 65-year-old firebrand, was
assassinated in cold blood two days ago at a public event. Dashanan was known
for his radical ideologies and massive following, making him one of the most
influential political figures in Asia. The country found itself teetering on the edge of chaos. Rioting and protests had erupted nationwide, fueled by a mixture of sorrow and rage. The government's silence only served to heighten the public's suspicion and fear. In a move that underscored the severity of the crisis, an emergency parliamentary meeting was convened, its outcome awaited with bated breath by a nation in turmoil.
The nation is on edge as tensions rise, with
widespread rioting erupting across the country in the wake of Dashanan's death.
The government has remained tight-lipped, refusing to comment on the
investigation or the action being taken to restore order. In a stunning
development, an emergency meeting has been called at the parliament, with all
ministers summoned for urgent discussions. The nation waits with bated breath
to see what the outcome of this historic meeting will be. Nadya, reporting from
the Office of the Prime Minister, where the situation remains tense as the
nation struggles to come to terms with the shocking loss of one of its most
influential leaders. Stay tuned for updates as this story unfolds”, Nadya, a
renowned journalist was reporting a live news.
The situation outside the Office of Prime Minister
was escalating by the minute. The protesters were becoming more and more
restless, chanting Dashanan's name and demanding answers. Tensions were running
high and the police force was finding it difficult to control the angry crowd. As
Nadya made her way to the building, she could feel the electricity in the air.
Her cameraman looked at her, his eyes filled with unease. "Do you really
think it's safe to be here right now?" he asked, his voice shaking
slightly. Nadya took another deep puff of the cigarette and exhaled slowly.
Despite the palpable risk, she was determined to capture the essence of this historic moment. "This is where history is being made," she said resolutely to Nick, whose concern for their safety was evident in his anxious eyes.
As the tension rose between the protesters and the police, the crowd grew louder in their demands for the truth. Meanwhile, Nadya and Nick, standing amidst the chaos, were acutely aware of the dangerous situation they were in. "We need to get out of here, now," whispered Nadya, looking around nervously. "This could turn violent any moment." Nick nodded in agreement, and the two journalists began to make their way through the throngs of protesters, dodging police officers and trying to avoid being caught up in the fray. Suddenly, a loud explosion rocked the area, sending a shockwave through the crowd and sending people running in all directions. Nadya and Nick stumbled, trying to keep their balance and avoid being trampled by the panicked protesters.
"What the hell was that?" shouted Nick,
his eyes wide with fear. Nadya didn't have time to answer as she was pulling
Nick with her to take cover behind a nearby car. The sound of gunfire filled
the air, and they realized that the situation had escalated into a full-blown
riot. With their adrenaline pumping, the two journalists quickly realized that
their only chance of surviving was to get out of the area and find safety. They
began to make their way through the chaos, dodging flying debris and avoiding
the police officers who were now struggling to contain the crowd.
As they finally made it to a side street and out of
danger, Nadya and Nick looked at each other, breathing heavily and trying to
process what had just happened. They both knew that they had just witnessed
something truly historical and that the story of Dashanan's assassination was
far from over. “Are you thinking twice to put the blame on the government
because you are a Merfolk?”, the cameramen asked her a stereotypical question
amidst the chaos. “Don’t be a jerk, Nick. You know I refused all of my Merfolk
special rights and reached this position by merit. So, shut the f**k up and
don’t be a racist prick”, she threw away the cigarette and stared angrily at
him as if she is going to land a fist on his face. Nick moved two steps away as
she was giving him a death stare.

Meanwhile, inside the parliament, the Prime
Minister, Isaac Rafe stood up, his face stern and serious as he addressed the
gathered ministers. "Gentlemen, there is no denying that Dashanan's death
has complicated things for our government," he said, his voice carrying
through the hushed room. "The public is restless and we must act quickly
to quell the unrest. We cannot keep Dashanan's body on display for long, it
only adds fuel to the fire."
The ministers nodded in agreement, their faces grave with the gravity of the situation. "I suggest," spoke the Defense Minister, "that we impose a lockdown until his body is properly cremated. We cannot risk having a cult spring up around his tomb, causing even more problems for the government to handle." The Prime Minister considered the proposal before nodding in agreement, a weighty silence hanging in the air as they deliberated on their next steps.
The opposition parties were not satisfied and the
tension in the air inside the parliament was palpable. Riz Wendigo, the
charismatic leader of the opposition, rose to speak. “You cannot just brush
Dashanan's death under the carpet and call him a villain. He was the voice of
the people, regardless of their racial differences. He made our country proud
on many occasions and deserves to be remembered with respect”, Riz said, his
voice echoing throughout the room. The Prime Minister, Isaac Rafe, was quick to
respond, “You have to understand the situation. We have to impose a lockdown to
ensure peace in the country until his family is able to carry out the rituals.
Regardless of his beliefs, we can't bury him due to the potential for unrest.
He was an atheist, after all, so he wouldn't mind being cremated.”
The arguments became increasingly heated, and
eventually, the majority of the parliament voted in favor of the Prime
Minister's plan to cremate Dashanan's body and impose a nationwide lockdown for
the next seven days. The opposition parties felt defeated and frustrated, and
the Prime Minister's hold on power seemed to grow stronger by the minute. The
country was on the brink of chaos, and it was unclear what the future would
hold.
The Defense Minister's face turned pale with fear. "We've already got our top men on the case. We've interrogated Dashanan's closest allies and scoured every inch of his home, but there's no sign of the document. We suspect it's been stolen, but by whom and for what purpose, we're not sure yet," he whispered back to the Prime Minister, his voice trembling with urgency. Isaac's eyes narrowed. "This document could bring down the entire government if it falls into the wrong hands. We need to act fast and find it before it's too late. I trust you'll get to the bottom of this." The Prime Minister's tone was stern, leaving no room for failure. As the Defense Minister stepped out of the Prime Minister's office, he knew that time was running out. The fate of the government hung in the balance, and he had to do everything in his power to retrieve the missing document before it's too late.

Nadya and Nick were eagerly awaiting new
developments, when Nadya's phone buzzed with an incoming link on WhatsApp. She
hesitantly clicked the link and was met with a special video of Dashanan being
broadcast by their rival news channel. The narrator's voice was filled with
admiration as they spoke of Dashanan's accomplishments. "Philanthropist,
activist, and the voice of the people. Dashanan, born and raised in the city of
Ashen, was a world-renowned activist and billionaire. His divisive ideologies
and tireless charity work for the citizens of Westbrook have earned him a place
in the annals of history as one of the world's most powerful and influential
figures. Despite his death just two days ago, his followers believe that his
ideas will rise from the ashes, stronger than ever before..." Nadya shut
off the video and cast a sideways glance at Nick. He sneered, "I see our
rivals still have the audacity to call him a hero." Nadya chose to remain
silent, not rising to the bait.
While she closed the video, she received a voice
message from an unknown number. “ I don’t know who to trust. My only option is
to trust you. Dashanan’s diary is sent anonymously to your house through one of
our supporters. His writings need to come out to the light. Please reveal the
it to the world. Don’t worry about the safety of your identity. I’m going to
dispose the phone. I don’t have too much of time. They are here. May God help
you”, a trembling and weak female voice stopped playing. As the voice message
ended, Nadya sprang into action. She grabbed Nick by the arm and pulled him
towards their news van. "We have to get out of here, now!" she
yelled. Nick struggled to keep up with her as they rushed to the van and
started the engine. "What's going on, Nadya? What's in that diary?"
he asked, his voice laced with worry. Nadya took a deep breath before
answering. "It's the truth about Dashanan's death", she threw the
phone into the back of the van and stepped on the gas. "We have to get to
a safe place and decode what's written in that diary. It could change
everything," she said, determination in her voice. The van swerved through
the streets, dodging cars and pedestrians as they raced towards their
destination. They had to be careful - the eyes of their enemies were
everywhere. But they were determined to uncover the truth, no matter what the
cost. © 2023 Hasventhran Baskaran |
