I Hate You!!!

The time was 4:00 p.m. on Hugo’s watch. He went to his manager, Mr Neal’s cabin to ask for off for the rest of the day. “What are you up to, Hugo? Going for any social services? Hahahaha…” Mr Neal teased him. “ Hi sir, I completed all the work for this week and emailed it to the clients. I even finished all the documentation works for the new project. Today is my fourth anniversary. Can I go back early today, sir?” Hugo asked politely. Mr Naim flinched back with surprise. “Wow, I never expected a Romeo to be in yourself, Hugo. Anyways, Happy Anniversary. Since you have finished the paper works, take a day off tomorrow too. Enjoy your day.”

Hugo thanked his manager and left the cabin. While he was packing his things at his cubicle, his colleague, Karl patted him on his shoulder, “Looks like the manager has given an anniversary gift to his favourite employee. How are you always in good terms with him?”. “Because I have never created a bad impression. All you need to do to make people like you is by being a good and honest person. Being good is not so hard”, Hugo looked at his friend and smiled. Henry smirked at him, “Well, I used to be like that too. But, being like this might cost you in future. People would take advantage of your good nature”. “Relax Karl. As long as you follow the rules and be good to others, you will always be loved and respected too”, Hugo smiled. Karl just nodded and asked him to convey his wishes to Hugo’s wife Aditi.

Hugo put on his bike coat and walked out from his office. It took few minutes by walk to reach his bike parking spot. He stood near his bike and turned on cellular data on his phone. His phone buzzed few times as he received multiple messages. He opened WhatsApp and saw a new message received from Aditi. When he opened it, the message read as following:

 

Hugo, how could you leave home just like that? You forgot what day is today. You even forgot the morning kiss. I hate you. Poda!!! (“Go away, man” in Tamil)

 

Hugo smiled reading the message. He knew that his wife did not mean the ‘I hate you’. He purposely acted as though as he forgot his anniversary. He planned to give a sweet surprise to her. He opened the next message:

Hi sir. You can collect the documents as soon as you can. Please do call us before coming to the office.

Few years back, she was telling him the list of things that she wishes to have if its possible and affordable. Hugo carefully listened to her wishes and chose the grandest of them all to gift it to her when he is finally able to afford it. Therefore, he saved money for several years to be able to get the grandest gift he could give his wife. “I’m coming now, mate. Prepare the documents for me”, Hugo replied to the message. He locked his phone and started his bike. The bike soon left the parking spot and headed to the busy streets of Kuala Lumpur. His turtle helmet allowed the evening breeze to brush through his hair. Towards the journey to his destination, he was imagining how Aditi would react, seeing the surprise gift he had brought for her. Life is so beautiful when you have a wonderful relationship and family, he thought to himself.
