...don't get worked up over nothing.

"

It’s 3:34 in the morning, the weather’s cool but my bed is soaked with sweat. The eerie noise echoes once again through my cabin and my skull, scaring me silly. I could go and check what is making it, but I have never been known for my bravery. I look around for Harry but he’s nowhere to be found. If only he were here, he would fix it. The sound grows louder and I feel my body vibrate with fear. Footsteps, I freeze in place as I hear the soft crunching of soil underneath someone’s feet just outside my window, so near I don’t dare to breathe. As it inches closer to the door, I decide I have to hide. I glance at a Swiss army knife sprawled on the floor and pocket it should things get awry.

In my haste to crawl under the bed, I knock over the jug of water on the bedside table, it breaks into pieces, the noise rivaling that of the entity’s movement outside. The footsteps stop and I resume my vibrating as I hear the latch on the door of the cabin open. The fear is mind numbing as someone enters my room and sits on my bed. For a second I think of dashing out of my hiding spot and running for dear life.  I contemplate for a few more seconds before I fling my body from below the bed. I hoist myself up ready to bolt as a hand grabs my collar and turns my body to face him.

The creature is massive, so big I wonder how my bed is still standing erect while it rests on it and how it got through the door in the first place. The moonlight from the window illuminates its horrid features, It has multicolored fur all over its body, claws like razor blades, has a goat-shaped body, very long neck but has a hauntingly beautiful face. I look closer and realize in shock that it’s the face of the owner of this cabin.

I admired her face when she rented this place to me but look at the same face now in utter horror as it compliments the dark features of the caricature holding me. It speaks in a cute, childish voice. “Why do you run from me, David?”. At the mention of my name, I can no longer help it as my fear kick-starts my urge to survive. I yank out my pocket knife and aim at its head. A deft throw leaves the knife sticking out of its head. I watch in horror as the it sinks into its head until it disappears completely.

Its neck starts to grow and slowly coils around my body like a snake until its face is directly in front of mine. “I only want to be your friend, David. Is that so wrong?”. But it is wrong, so wrong I almost say it out loud. My silence seems to amuse it and it starts to chuckle. The cute noises grow from a childish tone to a husky and masculine voice. Its neck tightens around my body and I scream in help, begging for anyone to save me.

My prayers seem to be answered as a flashlight assists the moonlight in illuminating the room.  It turns towards the light and for that split second it's attention is not on me. I bite hard into a part of its twisted neck, ignoring the repulsive taste of its blood. It lets go of me and lets out a bloodcurdling scream, encouraging me to run.

In one fluid motion, I turn in the direction of the door, the creature's claws narrowly missing my head when it swipes at me. I'm outside, the cool night breeze is in great contrast to the heat of my blood. I turn towards the flashlight yelling towards my apparent savior. The flash light wavers a bit and I suddenly realize that it's held way up high, the person holding it must be extremely tall. I stop cold when I catch a glimpse of the person's silhouette. It's another beast and this one is terribly big.

It roars in perfect sync with the beast inside the room, they are together. The beast inside smashes the wooden wall of the cabin and rushes madly towards me. The second beast rushes too and before long, I find myself sprinting through the thick woods running senselessly away from certain death. Their feet pound the earth behind me, each heavy step reverberating through the forest like an impending storm.

After 10 minutes of dashing through thorn vines and branches, I strain my ears and notice that it's just one of them that is crashing through woods behind me. I look behind me to confirm my notion and I see just the one with the flashlight, I face my front to resume running and almost lose my senses to shock as the cabin owner's face appears a few inches away from mine, it's attached to the same long neck that entwined me a few minutes ago. I don't get to scream as it lunges at my chest, sinking it serrated teeth into my body.

The other beast rushes toward the part of me sticking out of its mouth, wanting a piece of me. The fierce struggle between the two beasts to devour me enables my screaming once again. They tear and tear until I can no longer be referred to with singular pronouns. It's futile but I continue to scream into the moonlight air as my very essence is desecrated by two bloodthirsty monsters.

Harry slaps me awake and I jolt up from my pillow to look in his direction, "The hell's wrong with you David, why are you screaming in your sleep, I told you not to watch that movie, now you disturb... " I zone out while Harry rambles on, trying to recall the terrible dream I had.
