The War Within

The War Within

A Poem by SCRIBBLER

I had once lived in a world, that nourished peace.

A world that gave refuge to happiness, deserted gloom.

I, now see a world, that has abandoned hope, but hugged despair.

Where once, sprouted crops to fulfil once need, sprouts weeds not enough to feed

Where once, fish resided without fear, has now become a death trap for those who come near.

Where once, the sky would provide rains of freedom, now brings to us chains of fever.

This is what we may find, in a hundred years time.

The ground that provided a space to earn, now offers a place to rest in gloom.

Its changed its colour and shape, adapted its duty for our sake.

Where once it gifted food for a feed, it supports a dead’s need.

Plants and trees, now a distant memory.

We may have developed, created bigger buildings.

But though it may seem a successful try, our earth is being confined.

The water that offered us assurance, now an evil lair.

One that has set traps, for those who reside near.

Plastic a replacement for seaweed, skeletons the new view.

Marine life has drowned in its own domain.

We may have developed, created bigger buildings.

But though it may seem a successful try, our earth is being confined.

The sky that was once filled with white fluffy clouds, now illuminate a harsh background.

The air is now filthy, needs have changed.

Smoke has replaced oxygen, soot the air.

The ground is lined, with stitches that need repair.

We may have developed, created bigger buildings.

But though it may seem a successful try, our earth is being confined.

I must say that the way you wrote this poem makes it sound like both a poem concerning global warming AND one dealing with the rampant growth of violence that is currently holding this society. I don't know if this is the way you intended for this to come across or not, but even if it wasn't, you have gotten major points in my book for that! It's always nice to see poems and/or songs that deal with important things, rather than love and all those clichéd ideas(I'm not hating on love poems/songs, I'm just saying its nice to see something fresh every now and then). You wrote this very well, and I'm very glad I got to read it. Thank you for sharing this!

100/100. You have a very strong voice, I can see that clearly! :)

Thanks Sereena, always a pleasure to hear from you.
Scribber: From the song, They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. The poem is so sad and somber, and true. So few listen, economic development is a priority; so many crucial needs of our earth are ignored in the name of progress. In the name of MONEY, in so many cases. It actually IS a deathtrap Now. I recall 14 years ago being told, not to eat from the lakes near our home...the mercury. Not to eat salmon or tuna in the first trimester. The World must be united to make these changes. There are no more small farmers now; Monsanto has taken over. I don't know enough about it, but it is contraversial that one company supplies large corn and soybean among other manufacturers, and now, their genetically altered corn, to resist their produced ($'s) Roundup and other insect has become resistant; so their adding another chemical. Sorry, I could go on with my views, it's a wonderful poem - thanks...Dale

My pleasure!
This is an amazing write Scribbler. One of the best, well thought out and meaningful writes I have read. You make some great points, point out what necessarily isn't obvious to all but slowly we are ruining our own world. Destroying everything that has be given to us and just ruining life as we know it. Great write my friend!

Thanks My Friend.
A war that will end with terrible outcomes for us and all life on this planet, I'm afraid... natural disasters have destroyed our planet in the past but i fear the next big event will be brought about by humans... unfortunately, there are not enough interested in saving our planet and far too many with expanding belts looking to expand them even further... good job

Thank You for being so appreciative!
This is a worldwide testament not purely in the name of progress but, I believe more so in the name of greed by the world's power brokers. When something outlives it's usefulness, rebuild something bigger and better somewhere else without a single thought given to cleaning up the old mess and reclaiming the land for other new usage or construction.

It is sad what we did to kind earth. I liked the honest and direct thoughts in the outstanding poetry.
