Libitina's TearsA Story by Lisa G.in Forums, a Describe this picture of a mummy looking creature on a hill over looking a valley. Libitina looked across the wasteland that was once her
home. The war that devastated everything she ever knew from her past
was now over. The memories flooded her mind like the blood that
flowed from the wounds of her enemies and compatriot’s bodies that now lay
scattered across the battlefield. How did this happen? Libitina
remembered that day in the spring when everything was new and fresh, including
her friendship with Andraste. He was the Prince of Bohdana far to
the North. Traveling with Kamila, his aunt, visiting the princess'
beloved Anthea, the Southern country which had been the home of her descendants
since time began. Kamila
had found them one early summer. Lying beneath a grove of Amator
trees, their naked bodies glistened with the morning mist and blushed by the
passion of their innocent, treasured love for one another. Kamila’s
loose tongue had led to the death of Andraste, sweet
Andraste. Jealousy taking over the dark soul of the barren and
plain, trusted aunt of the prince. King Bodil had no love loss over
the execution of his son. The mixing of the two kingdoms was
strictly forbidden as Bodil saw his people as superior to the mongrels of the
south. Besides, he had always perceived Andraste’s compassionate, loving nature
as weakness. Libitina’s
father, Alexus and his army was no match for the Northern forces and were
crushed in two days of savage battle. The heartless Bodil’s excuse
of a broken agreement to engage in a war to annihilate his neighbor and take
what he desired. After the battle and fall of Anthea, Libitina’s fate had been
death, as well. Doused with a measure of fuel and set afire,
Libitina had prayed to the Goddess, Eira, who felt compassion for the death of
the sweet boy and their love, granted mercy to the princess but only to the
extent she would survive as a Valdis, a powerful, living-dead being. Eira,
so angered over Bodil’s all-consuming thirst for glory to equal and even
transcend the Gods themselves, granted a power so strong to Libitina she not
only survived Bodil’s burning fire as a transformed being but delivered a
devastating, unexpected blow to her enemy. The Valdis Libitina, called upon the
dark world for revenge and retribution. With poisonous spears
delivered by demons straight from Hell itself, and a fire of her own, spewing
forth a rain of burning hailstones from the skies above Anthea, her enemy, was
conquered. Bodil’s ashes swirled in the hot winds of the enraged
Valdis’ victory. Bearing
the scars of pain, in her heart and on her body, she wrapped herself in the
clothes of the dead and looked one last time over what was lost. The tears of
steam and heartbreak trailed down her smoldering cheek. Libitina
knows her destiny. Waiting, she will resign to wander until called upon by an
innocent with a righteous heart to right a wrong and deliver them from
injustice. © 2015 Lisa G. |
