Ode to a SoldierA Poem by Phantasmagoric Perceptions
He lays down his weary head,
Eyes heavy and tremulous with sleep The day folds closed and rests its wings Holding tight to his tired mind She thinks of him and clutches her chest Her heart, she fears it will rip right through The cage of bone that keeps it her own Instead of the soldier's, across the sea His dreams are restless and fragmented And hers are not dreams at all Both are filled with memories of each other Tormented by that which always haunts lovers Yet they arise, determined to defeat it Pushing on, though both wanting to fall They will meet again, the soldier and lady Meet again at the end of it alll © 2011 Phantasmagoric Perceptions |
