Ice

Ice

A Poem by Phantasmagoric Perceptions
"

One of my worst nightmares was like this...

"

A face looks up from beneath the ice

As they struggle in their final moments of life

An expression of terror closes over their eyes

As the wave to the world, good-bye

They scream, but alas, there is no sound

Only stifling silence that surrounds

And I think, as I'm watching them drown,

That they will drift away, and never be found.

They pound on the ice below me

Looking to me for some consoling

Exhaling the last of the air they could breathe

And I watch the life inside them cease

And as they sink below the shelf

I know that I've just drowned myself.
