Untimely LoveA Poem by harleen singhIt is a love poem based on the style of the Canterbury TalesThere was a young pair Forever their lives would they
share Humble and sound A better match could not be found To travel they desired The whole world they aspired Like Magellan and his crew In their minds they surely knew Their packing brought them stress
But somehow did progress Until the article was discovered They whole story was now
uncovered
Back to a time when the boy was
poor His whole life did he score But a meager supply His goods had run dry He sought for work But all the employers did smirk At his lack of fresh clothes But one day an opportunity arose For a job as a delivery man One for the mansions he ran When he passed upon by chance He was put into a trance The beautiful girl he saw But marrying her would be against
the law For a poor boy marrying into a
higher class His wish, it seemed, would not
come to pass But her appearance was so obvious It made some men notorious Though he was only looking at a
small picture He would still undoubtedly pick
her The job did allow him to go To her house which he did just so In person he saw At his heart it did gnaw For she was like an angel; a
beauty be it true Her hair was a shiny brown and
had been done anew Her figure was that of a delicate
ballerina and it did shine light On a sweet, pretty face that also
seemed bright But sadly it seemed not to be For a ring on her ring finger was
plain to see He read in the paper but had
never thought right Chadwick, of course! He held him
in spite. He delivered his package
embarrassed for staring The smile he’d hoped to give was
not meant for sharing.
The pretty girl was named
Annabelle She was not doing oh so well For she was to be married to Chad Everything looked very bad Chad was devious, mean, and rude And he seemed always to put her
in the mood Sad and helpless did she feel She did surely not want to seal The vows they would share And they would most definitely
tear Her apart piece by piece Because she wanted him to release The bonds that held her there She was in utter despair Until one day she saw a boy She felt a spark and was filled
with joy He was cute with straight brown
hair And his blue eyes never ceased to
stare Upon her face lost in her smile The whole thing was worth the
while Chad saw her smile and got
extremely jealous For he knew she was quite
rebellious But he wanted her dearly because
she was the link To his future wealth, now he
needed to think Of a way to win over her
attention But she wanted a source of
prevention The only thing he could think of
to do Was to keep her locked away so he
could try to woo Her and have her be faithful
until marriage He desperately needed her to
pledge Forever is what he wanted However he was indeed taking her
for granted He was shallow, but his status
made him worthy of her love But that day Annabelle swore to
put Peter above.
Meanwhile in another part of town
Peter was feeling very down His deliveries throughout the
rest of that day Always seemed tarried in a way Because all he could think about
was Annabelle She was so pretty and on that did
he dwell He was a good guy, way better
than Chad He wanted Annabelle to realize
the connection they had But the doubt was so strong,
overpowering all hope And the next couple days all he
did was mope Waiting for the day he could
deliver to her again And he was undoubtedly overjoyed
when He next went to her house, but to
his dismay When he saw her she appeared in a
totally different way Her kind smile was gone as was
the happiness in her eyes And she appeared like she’d met
her demise Then Chad came to the door and
shut it in Peter’s face So he dropped the letters and
left in disgrace But on the way out he heard
yelling and someone screamed Not everything going on was as it
seemed What he saw next was a miraculous
sight The door opened and she ran by
him with all of her might She had finally escaped, things
would be better at last She was now free to forget
everything from the past Peter caught up and offered her a
place to hide To his small, cramped house
together they would ride To stay hidden from Chad was
their goal This turn of events had surely
taken its toll.
Now from Chad’s point of view I
will continue on This was when Annabelle and Peter
were long gone He had searched far and wide He was slowly losing all his
pride Annabelle was his wish and he
needed her still Because without her he would have
no will To rise to power, she was the
missing piece to the puzzle Without her he was like a hunting
dog with a cover over its muzzle He needed her family’s money to
take over the city Without her at his side this
would all be a pity He had searched constantly for
her face He had searched in every possible
place But she couldn’t be found no
matter where he’d look He thought he’d fully searched
every single nook But she was nowhere to be found Being well hidden she felt safe
and sound.
Then one day Chad found her, oh
no! With him she did not want to go He dragged her all the while she
was begging and pleading All her hope of freedom was slowly
receding “Please let me go!” she yelled
loud as she could But even with all the yelling in
all it did no good For this time he was determined
to keep her at bay He had total control in every
which way. Peter was astounded and filled
with rage Now Annabelle was as trapped as
if she were locked in a cage How Chad did find her he did not
know But to once again rescue
Annabelle did he go He drove his van to Chad’s door His control of her would be no
more Even from a distance he could
hear Her helpless screams that were
filled with fear.
Inside it was far more dark What Chad did next was sure to
leave a mark He beat her so she would say yes The pain left her in much
distress To a chair she was tied She couldn’t speak, she was
petrified Again and again he hit her with
all his power His mood was extremely sour Her wounds burned hot and red By the time he was finished she
was nearly dead Then he left the room, filled
with silent guilt This had been a bad way to have
their relationship rebuilt The tears slowly rolled down
Annabelle’s face And bright red blood covered the
delicate lace Of her beautiful dress that was
now torn A newfound hatred of Chad unlike
any other was born.
Meanwhile Peter was outside the
place He needed a way to get into the
space That Annabelle was being held
captive in He went around and found an
entrance next to the garbage bin A window to the basement; looking
through he saw His love, her face red and raw From her tears arose a passion He knew he had to rescue her from
the mansion He was a poor boy so he knew what
to do to get her out But he had to make sure she
didn’t shout But the plan seemed to shatter
when Chad walked back into the room He also then proceeded to pick up
a broom Peter was in the meantime untying
Annabelle from the seat So he did not notice Chad until
he hit him, real discreet Peter grabbed the vase on the
shelf What he did next made him shocked
with himself When upon Chad’s face the vase
was smashed And on the floor Chad then
crashed With Annabelle thrust on his shoulders
Peter ran He had never felt like such a man Out the door, he was almost there When the parents of Chad appeared
with a glare
“What’s going on here?!” they
inquired And at that point leaving is what
Peter desired He put Annabelle down and
explained his cause with no prevail Everything he said just seemed to
fail Annabelle tried to tell them the
situation She was very vague in her
explanation But it seemed to portray the
message well enough The parents were making the whole
thing really rough However the pain Chad caused
Annabelle was very clear to see And the parents finally decided
that their arranged marriage did not have to be So they called it off as Peter
and Annabelle had hoped They knew from the start they
were destined to be eloped The poor boy had come very far And no two people are happier
than they are So all turned out well in the end
for the happy match And on the love for each other
did they latch. © 2014 harleen singh |
