Mantra

Mantra

A Poem by New Dawn

she is worn by vigil

wearied by grief

the heavy silence broken

only by the

platitudes and condolences

that fall from my lips,

a softly spoken mantra

as intimate as prayer,

an exchange of compassion

and empathy that

she will remember hearing

as I remember hearing it,

all those years ago

when I too sat vigil
