Break - up

Break - up

A Poem by New Dawn
"

we had been excited, a day at the beach!

"

We had been excited,
A day at the beach!
and when the ice-creams were bought
it never occurred to us
to be suspicious of your kindness,
that you might be sweetening us
to swallow such bitter news.
We listened to your foreign words
and awkward assurances
that meant little us,
and kicked angrily at the sea spray
whilst words such as 'break-up',
too heavy for the beach,
floated out across the waves
and sank without trace.

~ i fear those who camouflage serious messages... and i feared them as a child even more than i do now... i always want the truth to not be sugar-coated... ~ this is a brilliant piece... one that i'll keep very close to my heart...

I like this. It took me a little time to get used to the plurality, but it makes the poem work.
