Desperately Seeking Solitude

Desperately Seeking Solitude

A Poem by New Dawn

She

took the phone

and buried it

in the back yard

so that cold-callers might

spout their spiel into

unresponsive ground.

She

muted the doorbell,

leaving the wires

hanging,

requests for admission

never transmitted,

and

when they knocked

impatiently

at the door

she sat in shadow

not daring to breathe

until

they left,

unsated,

their footsteps

fading

in to ..

              nothingness.

Can't count the number of pointless phone calls I have received today. Haven't really buried the phone - but I felt like it
