Dream Cycle

Dream Cycle

A Poem by New Dawn

I dreamed that I awoke.

but it was merely

a slight of my imagination,

a trickery that allowed me

to continue unhindered

through the hallways

of my mind.

So many doors

and each of them white.

I didn't choose,

there was nothing to distinguish

one from another,

the good from the inevitable bad.

Instead I approached the window

and drew back the curtains

seeking light

but I found only

another set of curtains

and another and another

until my arms grew tired

and in a crescendo of panic..

I dreamed that I awoke

trembling in the cold night air

and in need of comfort

I left my bed

to wander aimlessly

through the corridors of my mind.

thank Patrick - can you believe I actually had this dream - or nightmare- that I was unable to wake from. there is nothing scarier than to wake from a nightmare than to find yourself still in the nightmare. thanks for reviewing - glad you liked it and I can see how this could be seen as a routine of death - certainly a dream you never get to wake from!

Great imagery. I love the fact that you've represented, in words, that you can't get away from the repetition the mind plays on and on. I read this as a routine of death (one that plagues my own mind) but that's what makes this poem that much more powerful; the fact that anyone can interpret the lines differently and to their own degree. A good read from a good poet.
