Mass production of the virtual reality headset

Sony has big plans for the next generation of hardware for virtual reality with plans to have 2 million units of its PSVR 2 headset ready by March of next year.

Mass production of the virtual reality headset was reported to have begun in September (via Bloomberg) and has so far not faced problems with the supply chain. With the PS5 remains highly sought-after due to its low availability since it launched in November 2020. Sony also plans to have additional console stock available by the beginning of 2023, according to Bloomberg's sources.

PSVR 2 has yet to receive a release date past 2023. However, Sony has been working hard to ensure that it has enough PS5 consoles to play games with the new headset. The device will only work with PS5 and will not be compatible with backwards-compatible PSVR games.

What we know about this hardware is that it has some beastly specs. Similar to it's predecessor the PS5 along with the DualSense controller Sony have incorporated haptic feedback inside-out tracking, eye-tracking as well as 3D sound into its kit, but it hasn't yet been released with an estimated retail price.

"PSVR 2 looks poised be an important step for the game industry," Tamoor Hussain wrote in GameSpot's PSVR 2 preview.
