In a group interviews with the media (via Windows Central), Vicarious Visions studio design director Rob Gallerani and project lead Michael Bukowski discussed the creation of Diablo: Resurrected and also touched on what the next few years might include. Gallerani said the team is determined to get the fundamental game working However, there are plenty of options to think about what's next.

"We had a goal of laying the foundation for a solid structure before we talked about the fourth and third floors of this building,"" Gallerani explained. "If we had misjudged what the core game was then everything else we were doing could have been insignificant. 

[...]We certainly have a lot of concepts, but right this moment, we're waiting on making sure we've got our fundamental game in order. [...] We'll determine once the game is live what we decide to do with new terms, new items, changes to balance, and such."

Certain modifications will become available at the time Diablo: Resurrected launches, for example, the addition of runewords which were previously only available via ladders, items available to every player and the fact that it will be playable on consoles. It also doesn't include the original's TCP/IP functionality that was removed because due to security issues.
